I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Bridgewater Associates in Aug 2013
Interview
Was referred through a friend so went directly to the on-site interview process. Day was rather disorganized, with several of the interviewers being late and very little information provided during the process. Interviews are like you have heard - very direct and confrontational, but really just prolonged discussions with the interviewers asking many prodding follow-up questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
At length discussion question focusing on the merits of government-regulated gambling.
First round with HR.
Second round is a group discussion. Given a topic, there is no right or wrong. I think they are trying to understand your thinking process and how you deal with problems.

Question 1
HR related general questions. Philosophy-like topic.
HR screen about you and your background, group discussion where you discuss an abstract philosophical question (e.g do you tax happiness, if you could make everyone believe one fact what would it be), analytical interview
