Interview experience – decent conversations, poor follow-up
I interviewed for a role at Breast Cancer Now and found the interview itself to be a positive-ish experience. The panel were engaged, the questions were thoughtful, and the discussion felt substantive and respectful.
However, the post-interview communication was disappointing. I was told I would receive an outcome by a specific date, but heard nothing until I followed up over a week later. I was then reassured I would receive a decision that day, only to receive an automated rejection email shortly afterwards, with no personal feedback.
I subsequently requested feedback and, at the time of writing, have not received a response after over a week.
While I appreciate that recruitment processes are busy, clearer communication and timely feedback would have made the experience feel more professional and aligned with the organisation’s values. The interview itself was strong, but the lack of follow-up detracted from what could otherwise have been a very positive candidate experience.
Advice to management:
Ensure candidates receive timely updates and basic feedback, particularly when expectations have been set. Small improvements in communication would significantly improve the overall recruitment experience.
