      R&D Scientist Interview

      27 Sept 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at BenchSci

      Interview

Phone interview was relaxed and easy to get through. Virtual Interview was more technical but still really basic. If you know basic wet lab techniques then you are golden. Another virtual interview, where you get to meet the team. They are generally looking for PhDs, but for what they need to get done, a PhD is extremely overqualified (at least for this position). They should be looking at BSc, and students nearing completion of their undergraduate degree.

      Interview

Listen everyone! Don't even bother apply to this company! I heard from an insider someone got the R&D Scientist position without going through a formal interview, nor the company had an external job posting for fair competition. If anyone who has a desire to work with BenchSci in the future, you better start getting connections and be friends with them! I also agree with another reviewer the company sounds incredibly arrogant. They were backed up by Google venture and told applicants who mostly had a PhD to accept and stay happy with their low salary offer. Come on! That's definitely an insult to those who earned their degrees, even an office clark could

Hi There, First and foremost, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we admittedly are more partial to the positive reviews, if there are things we're not doing right, it's important we hear about them to fix them. Our interview process is designed to be a fair evaluation of skills and experience for the respective roles we're hiring for. We also have a referral program that we leverage to bring in strong talent to the process, reduce costs, and reduce turnover rates (See references here: https://medium.com/hr-blog-resources/8-most-important-employee-referral-statistics-f7c25cf41667). We don't hire our friends, but we do hire strong applicants who come highly endorsed. Apologies if our interactions came across as arrogant! Due to the complex nature of our product, we require a very high bar of education for certain positions. As for our compensation practices, we conduct regular industry analyses for all our roles to ensure we are in line with the market. When we see a discrepancy, we take the necessary steps to correct it. If there is any additional feedback you can provide, please feel free to email it to me here at Roald@benchsci.com. Thank you again for taking the time share, -Roald Head of People and Culture
