Director of Digital Content & Social Interview

      16 Dec 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Believe (CA) (Los Angeles, CA) in Dec 2021

      Interview

The lady I interviewed with was really nice. I appreciated her empathetic approach to the interview. But one thing stood out to me is that from the very beginning when I found the job on ZipRecruiter, I wasn't given any alternative in terms of interview slots. I found the job in November and they scheduled me in December. I messaged them asking for a different time and received no follow through. Strike one. During the interview, the lady that interviewed me told me that it was a "baby startup." In all honesty that gave me pause and great concern as to how structured and stable is this company? I could already tell that there is a lack of structure because of the lack of follow through in simply responding to my message. Shouldn't a company offer multiple time slots for an interview? Strike two. Then, the woman claimed that the interview went really well. She promised I was moving on to the next step. She promised that I was going to be meeting with the CEO or the head person. She swore that she was going to email me by the end of the week. Okay, great. Well, she kept emailing me back with different excuses. Now they are changing their minds. Bad sign. Once again, "baby startup" that on the surface promises to do "special things" for people. This is a company that promises, according to their website, to look out for other people and show empathy, education, and compassion. Well, when you constantly change your mind and promise a candidate one thing and you don't follow through - what sort of message are you sending? Strike three. Finally, after several late emails, I get a response that they went with a different candidate. One that suited their needs better. They did me a great service because I am looking for a company that has a more solid foundation than a "baby startup." I am looking for follow-through. I am looking for a company that behaves like their motto. I am looking for a company that doesn't string candidates along or beat around the bush. I was going to turn down the offer anyway because of the above. So, the results of this interview worked out for the both of us.
