      Gameplay Programmer Interview

      21 May 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Behaviour Interactive in Oct 2022

      Interview

The interview process was fully remote, and consisted of 4 main steps: 1 - A phone call with a recruiter where I answered questions about me, my experiences and goals 2 - An interview with Tech Leads, were I shared my experiences through more technical terms (there was a NDA that had to be signed before this one) 3 - A 90-min pair programming test were I had to create a small hangman-style game in C++ 4 - A final interview with recruiters to formalize an offer and were I could ask any question Every interview was using either Zoom or Teams (except for the phone call). Everyone was super friendly throughout the whole process.

      Question 1

The thing they wanted to verify was not only my previous experiences but most importantly how I handled difficulties, how I communicate with others and how I work with a team, if I was a fit for the company's culture.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Behaviour Interactive (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Initially the recruiter approached for a lead role, then thought I'd be a better fit for a gameplay programmer role at senior level. Then I have done technical tests and got a good enough results to continue with the in-person tech interview. The recruiter just sets up the interview and asks me if the time is ok, which I said ok to. Then the recruiter tells me that it is actually for a UI programmer role that was more between junior-intermediate role without telling me before setting up the interview. I felt that was pretty disrespectful for the skillsets and experience that I bring to the table and also the general process was pretty bad in my opinion. I declined to proceed forward and I would not want to work for such company that disrespects candidates' time and skills. Overall pretty bad experience. I would not interview for this company at any point in the future.

Firstly doing an programming skill test online, then visit the company for interview. The programming test includes two simple coding questions and the test is one-hour duration. Actually quite simple. But cheating can be detected.
