      Project Manager Interview

      18 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at BBC (London, England) in Jun 2019

      Interview

Usual 3 panel BBC competency interview with a Product Manager , the hiring manager and someone senior from development. It was noticeable that they'd been doing a lot of interviews that day and were knackered making it harder to follow their flow and logic. 9 questions in 60 minutes, which is almost impossible I'd suggest. Properly it would require 1.5 hours. Especially as there are multiple components for each question which you need to tick off. No-one from these interviews was hired. This was I feel due to the quality of the job description as advertised and poor communication process. What read like a generic agile project manager job it transpired also had some rather unique but important characteristics that I hadn't anticipated in my interview preparation, and weren't really flagged at all in advance. These factors only became evident right at the end of the interview when they actually finally properly described the role and the product (which wasn't the product I thought I was interviewing for!) Unfortunately, I did have some really good examples which I could have used in this space , but the lack of transparency in what they were looking for hindered this, so I didn't use them. As ever with BBC interviews, the interviewers assume , incorrectly, that under the pressure of an interview a candidate has time and capacity to reach back into their memory and pick the best example for questions to which they have no actual context whatsoever. There were also some minor issues of difficult interviewer accents and in house terminology and mindsets. One part of the interview I had no understanding of what the hiring manager actually said.
