      Rental Sales Agent Interview

      27 Sept 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Orlando, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Avis Budget Group (Orlando, FL) in Jul 2011

      Interview

I applied for a job with Avis Budget in early July and was called about 3 weeks later for a phone interview. I was very excited about the job and did a lot of research on the company. At the end of the phone interview I was told that Avis / Budget wanted to take the next step and schedule a 1:1 interview. I was given the date by the phone interviewer which happened to also be the same day as their job fair. I was told to arrive 1/2 hour early and my appointment was at 10:30. I did arrive a half hour early. I was handed a booklet application and sent to a room FULL of applicants. I filled out my paperwork and returned it to the check in table. I was told to go back to the waiting room. I sat there until after 12:45. During that time only 2 people from the waiting room were called out for interviews. Lunch came and went. They had olive garden brought in but not for us. When I was called in I was ask about every job on my resume and I was ask behavioral questions to which the interviewer’s response was "excellent". She asks me to describe myself in one word. She asks me to pick an item in the room and state 2 reasons why she shouldn't buy it. I was then given a personality test and put in another room with the new hires from 2 weeks ago to fill it out. For sales people I have to say that most if not all of the new hires appeared as if they couldn't close a door let alone a sale. The make up of the room with only one exception was Latino males in their 30s and 40s. After the personality test I was put back into the holding room and left there until almost 4:00 pm. Just before 4 I was called into another office where a man asks me if I had any questions and I ask 3. I went home and sent my thank you cards. I received an email letting me know they had decided to go with a different candidate. I logged into the Avis Budget website a week after the interview as they were advertising again for the position. In my profile it stated that I was "not competitive". I have done very well in commission based sales for 15 years. I have extensive experience in the quick sale. (7 min or less) I believe most of the hiring decisions are based on the personality test. I would advise anyone who is applying to do your home work on how to answer each question.

Had a phone interview with HR, really lovely and casual discussion. Was then interviewed by the area manager and had a chat about the role, team/work culture, the company, etc. Casual, friendly, seemed like they were testing out to see if I was a good fit mostly.
