It sounds as though there were several positives to the interviews which were conducted, ie, relevant lines of questioning and a rigorous format, but a meeting of 90 minutes’ duration may have benefitted from a comfort break at a timely point.
Regarding your point on the numbers of panel members, these are chosen according to their potential involvement with the role of the new postholder, and would have been included to explore that perspective. This saves the need for separate (and more time-consuming meetings)
