This was a great interview. Asked a lot of questions that were about company transparency and fit. Overall, I got a good understanding of the company culture and what was needed to accelerate growth.
Interview was interesting to say the least. This was in the early days when there was minimal funding, and they had not secured much. However I was told that “raising money is no problem”. When they extended an offer they said that because they have not raised the round just yet, they wouldn’t be able to pay me until the month of July (we were targeting a June start date). Naturally I said, that’s fine, I will start in July! Nope, they kept coming up with different ways to spin it and citing fundraising as the issue, and would not even commit to paying me retroactively when the money was raised. I came back and offered to just start work when they could comfortably pay the employees (you know, for working?) but it was clear the founder John was simply trying to squeeze a new grad for a month of free work. Thank god I dodged that bullet, by the looks of a lot of the real reviews my impression of the founder was spot on and I saved myself a lot of headache.
I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Apptopia (Boston, MA) in Nov 2019
Interview
The VP of Revenue reached out to me via LinkedIn at a time when I was looking for a new opportunity. A former boss of mine also referred me to him around the same time. These two factors may have contributed to an accelerated interview process, which for me began with a coffee with the VP of Revenue, followed by a coffee with the Director of Customer Success. These conversations were mainly exploratory, to get a feel for culture fit, background, and my interest in/any questions I had about the role.
From there, I was invited to the office for a final round interview, which consisted of both a project I had to present to the Director of Customer Success and VP of Revenue, followed by interviews with members of the team across departments. Through the project, I had the chance to demonstrate both my knowledge of the Apptopia web product and how it can be leveraged as a solution for various use cases across teams and industries.
