I applied via email. 2 months later got a request for an interview with my line manager. I also had to fill out a very detailed employment form which ordinarily goes with, you are getting the job because it requested for a lot of personal data.
The interview or informal chat with the line manager was very dull. He seemed rather tepid so I matched his energy. There was no one else on the Zoom call. He kept asking questions without indicating if he wanted my professional response or personal, like, "what motivates me to get up in the morning," or, "what's the one thing I believe in?"
We spent less than 10 minutes talking about my professional experience. Was taken aback when my research revealed that the previous person had stayed in the role less than a year, so that made me drill down further as to how this manager worked with them. Maybe those questions put him off, as I didn't get through. Few days later, claimed my skill set did not match the position.
Found it odd that such a big American multinational would put hiring decisions in the hands of one line manager. Especially one whose last hire lasted less than a year!
