I had two interviews for the role, which were fairly laid-back and mostly focused on situational questions. Afterward, I didn’t hear anything from them for about a month until they offered me the position. I signed a contingent offer pending the results of a federal background check.
Two weeks later, I still hadn’t received the necessary links for the background check, so I reached out to the recruiter. She seemed unsure of the situation but assured me she would look into it and get back to me. After another two weeks of silence, she finally emailed me to say, “Yeah, the Department of the Interior decided to pull the funding for this position.” It was a very nonchalant EMAIL informing me that the offer had been rescinded. Did not even have the decency to call me.
I decided to follow up with the hiring manager, only to receive another dismissive response. He mentioned they’d keep my resume on file in case anything else opened up. Six months later, I noticed the same position was reposted on their website, but no one contacted me about it.
Overall, the entire process felt dehumanizing, dismissive, and disrespectful.
