I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Abodewell in Mar 2017
Interview
The process started with a project testing if I could develop an efficient algorithm. I completed the task under the restraints given. Then, they gave me an assessment on HackerRank testing SQL, Python, and Probability. I missed a question, yet they gave me a 2hr phone interview next.
The two hours were split between two people who both started with "get to know you" type questions. In addition the first person asked 2 Computer Science questions and the second person focused on open-ended Data Science questions (the questions flowed from one to the next in a way that made me think some were improvised).
Finally, I had an interview with their technical advisor. Potential last step would have been a two day interview in Austin, but they rejected me after the technical advisor call.
The questions were fair and everyone I talked to seemed incredibly nice. However each step took 1-2 weeks, large periods of which they didn't keep me updated and sometimes wouldn't respond to my emails. I think this was largely the result of them not having someone in charge of recruiting. The recruiting email they gave me went to multiple people (including the CEO). Another issue I had was: the position was listed for Redwood City or Austin, but after I turned in the project, they said it was only for Austin.
All in all I'd have taken the offer, they do seem really nice albeit a bit disorganized. Austin's housing is super cheap too.
