Thank you for your review. As a value retailer, we aim to be a median wage employer and we’re committed to paying above the minimum wage and National Living Wage. We benchmark ourselves regularly against others in the retail sector to ensure fairness. We're also committed to regular reviews to ensure wages reflect market conditions and the incredible work our colleagues do.

Hey there, thanks for leaving a review. Glad that you are enjoying the flexible hours and finding our customers treat you well. We pay above national living wage and work hard to ensure that we remain competitive with similar organisations. We paid a bonus this year which is directly related to our turnover and profit goals where a high number of our competitors and other retailers did not pay out bonus. Whilst we describe ourselves as a median pay employer and understand that there are other retailers, particularly the larger supermarket chains where pay is greater than ours, we do work hard to ensure that our lowest paid members of the business receive the greatest uplift in pay year on year. As as result, our retail teams experienced an uplift of between 6 - 9 % recently in our last annual pay review and also the year prior. In 2023 we also paid a voluntary cost of living payment to the majority of our workforce. Adele - Talent Attraction Manager

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear your experience with management didn’t meet your expectations. We understand how crucial effective, supportive leadership is to a positive working environment. While many of our managers are highly regarded by their teams, we recognise there’s always room for improvement. We continue to invest in leadership training and development, and your feedback helps us focus those efforts in the right areas. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Nice people (if you're lucky) but poor communication and leadership

      Retail assistant
      Former employee
      Leeds, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

20% staff discount, plus access to discounts and offers at other retail stores. Most of the people at the store level are friendly, and can be great if you fit in with your team.

      Cons

Pay is very low, they are only a few pence above minimum wage. They advertise about annual bonuses, but they haven't paid these out in years. No sick leave, and most stores have only the bare minimum of staff, so there's high pressure to come in if you're sick, or you'll often be pressured to do extra hours to cover others. Poor communication. You'll be bombarded with emails, and constant updates, tasks and training from management, but somehow very little actual content. The company talks a big game about valuing their staff, but there's very little meaningful action to back this up.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. We completely understand how important it is to feel supported when you’re unwell, and we’re pleased to share that we have recently introduced company sick pay to better support our colleagues during times of illness. This change is part of our broader commitment to improving the overall colleague experience, and we hope it makes a meaningful difference.
