What are some insights into the strategy or vision at The Learning Lab?

- Little office politics and colleagues are generally helpful. - There is a separate team which plans the curriculum, so prep work is quite minimal especially if you have taught a couple of years. - Robust training system in place to help new teachers get up to speed.

- Work gets repetitive. - Kids are often times self entitled and parents have very high (sometimes unrealistic) expectations because of the fees and how we are marketed as a premium enrichment centre. - Manpower constraints and teachers having to work both weekends has been a perpetual pain point. - Need to plan for leave far ahead in advance.

The Learning Lab (TLL) is a premium enrichment company. One has even shared that it is the SQ in the tuition industry. Over the course of a decade in this company, I have gained invaluable insight into this competitive industry. What keeps me going would be the people and the product itself. Teaching at TLL is not mundane at all. The curriculum comes to life through various teaching techniques, including immersive experiences. The departments come together weekly and have in-depth discussions and the management does its best to listen to what us teachers have to say. The colleagues that work together often forge strong bonds, making every day at work a joy. Get-togethers as a team, a unit and company are part and parcel at TLL

As with the rest of the tuition centres, weekends are often the busiest.

TLL is doing a great job helping other tuition centres. First, we hire great teachers who genuinely passionate about helping students. Then our subject heads put in a great deal of effort to train them in terms of marking and lesson delivery. Once these teachers are doing well, we overwork and bully them such that they burn out, quit and join other centres! We should be applauded for being so generous in training teachers for other centres. If parents find TLL too expensive, they do not have to worry as they can most certainly find ex-TLL teachers in other centres that probably do not charge as much!
