What is overtime like at Outlier AI?

      Pros

-Tasks are relatively easy to learn and do. -You get paid weekly for the hours you have worked. -Once tasks starts rolling in, you can make a decent amount of dollars. -You work on your own pace and some tasks pay you for working overtime.

      Cons

-You can go over 6 months without getting any tasks!! Locale: en_ZA -You begin tasking at an attempter level, and once you put in enough working hours, your status upgrades to a reviewer. But, your payment increase depends on completed tasks, not mandatory upon being promoted. -Again, you can suddenly stop getting tasks for up to a period of 6 months and the reason can vary from your skills not aligning with available tasks or projects that you are currently working on being on pause and that's that.

One of the worst management I have ever seen

      Pros

none really. If you end up being able to do some tasks you receive some money... big advantages (sarcasm).

      Cons

Honestly, where can I even start? You’re lucky if they assign you tasks to complete—these are often taken away arbitrarily. They grade your work, but the rules constantly change, and you receive different or additional information over time, making it impossible to complete a task properly from the beginning. The management is so poor it feels like navigating a real labyrinth. If you score poorly on some tasks, they block you from doing more, which would make sense if you had all the correct information and directives from the start—but that’s not the case. You undergo "training" for certain tasks (most of which are very similar), but as soon as the training is done (minimum 1 hour unpaid), the task is no longer available. Whenever you try to contact support, it either takes forever to get a response or you never receive one. If the issue is urgent, like payment, don’t expect a quick resolution. Honestly, the person who founded this company might be skilled in AI or tech, but everything else—task distribution, customer and worker support, grading management—feels random, as if they spent two minutes setting it up and are just winging it day by day. It’s incredibly unprofessional and poorly managed.

      Pros

remote work. some task can be fun for people who love to write and be creative

      Cons

Anticipate shifting between projects without any feedback or prior notice. Expect to be doing unpaid training 80 percent of the time. Don't expect feedback or guidance. Expect to lose interest in producing excellent work and exerting effort once you realize that training is a waste of time, as it's only a matter of time before you're relocated again and forced to undergo free training. You should monitor your hourly rate closely. One moment it's $40, another moment it's $30, the next $50, and this is all in one day. Additionally, you should anticipate the need to send numerous emails to request adjustments to your earnings. Countless instances have occurred where my earnings have been less than half of what I was due for a given task. Keep a record of the time you spend on each task, as this will serve as a backup for when you need to dispute your earnings. Expect to wait for several days to receive a response from support; they make you jump through hoops for a resolution. Be prepared to send reminders about any incentives or rewards that are due to you. Expect to be done with the place after just a couple of months of experiencing the sh*t show that is outlier AI.

      Pros

Money looked decent; The projects looked really cool to work on

      Cons

After spending almost 2 days in onboarding, and acing every test, my very first assignment was to write two prompts for Numeric Sled. I went a little overtime, because I was trying to get things right – – but within seconds of submitting, I was told they had failed, and I was no longer eligible to work on projects. I went through several channels to see what the problem was, because I knew I did a pretty decent job – – and eventually I learned that although I had been sent the numeric sled project, I was supposed to be sent some entirely different project. I forget the name of the project at this particular moment, but it was entirely different. I brought this up with tech-support, of course, but they just automatically replied with the expected boiler plate. It was clear that no human being ever looked at what happened with my situation. Although I did receive many, very nice emails, with actual human names, attached to them. However, not one ever addressed an It was clear that no human being ever looked at what happened with my situation. Although I did receive many, very nice emails, with actual human names, attached to them. However, not one ever addressed a single point that I made – and it’s not like I had a lot of questions. I was given one project, and failed because I was supposed to be answering another one somehow… If nothing else, the fact that my response came back within milliseconds should be a clue that there was something wrong there. Obviously, they have more than enough workers at Outlier. Or – – full disclosure here – – I have an old drug charge on my record, and maybe that was enough for them to just drop me, and use some crazy test mishaps as there excuse..? . In any case, I have a feeling that if you get lucky and get in there, and get on the right projects, you might do OK. I’ve been following the Reddit forum and so on for sometime. However, be aware that the company seems to be almost entirely run by the same AI that it is trying to build and improve. So best of luck. If anyone ever thinks of it, please hit me back up and let me know what and how you are doing. Cheers!

      - good way to make some extra cash

      Cons

      - not consistent - projects are lacking all the time - if your reviewer doesn't take it seriously, they can give you a bad rating for no reason and nobody will care - poor communication - takes way more time than they allocate for you, but if you work over their time limit, they will flag your account

      There are absolutely no pros.

      Cons

Only point of contact is a slack channel. You are actually working for remotasks as this is who pays you. I got paid first week. Thought ok it's not a scam. Proceed to work all week long over 80 hours and then on Pay Day they will just suspend your account for a generic description. I am owed over $2500. They are absolutely the scammiest. What an absolute complete waste of my time. What they are doing is illegal.

      Pros

None, really. It's a complete clown show.

      Cons

Poor communication, from support and project administration. Limited work that is assigned by an incompetent ai system. The platform and its regular employees (support, project management) will outright lie to you about anything and everything. Convoluted, poorly written instructions and onboarding material. Often delivered via video or written by someone with a tenuous grasp of the English language. Unpaid training sessions, including onboarding and useless webinars. Webinars are never helpful and usually descend into a bunch of people with limited English skills asking the same stupid questions over an over. Frequent assignments to dead or dying projects following lengthy, unpaid onboarding training and assessments. Comically underestimated time requirements for onboarding. Unqualified and borderline illiterate reviewers; your future with a project depends on these clowns and you will get burned. Infrequent, intermittent work. Absolutely no such thing as a project that lasts more than a couple of weeks any longer, in my experience. Project management often displays favoritism when assigning work. Bootlickers in community discourse and webinars. Exceedingly tedious people. Models frequently fail when one is trying to complete a task. Project instructions are poorly written (with the exception of the crew that ran Nexus and Seal; they were outstanding) and rarely updated. There is a general vibe that project management doesn't know what is going on and they are only winging it. Being forced to work on other "priority" projects, usually paying less, when one is working on a decent project. Unrealistic time requirements/constraint. In order to maintain quality ratings and remain on a project, one must often pause the timer to do necessary research to complete a task. This means you are effectively reducing your rate of pay and therefore, your compensation. Project terminations are abrupt, and you will be ghosted when they end.
