What is the salary like at Northwestern University?

Great location, beautiful campus, benefits used to be good.

The scaling back of tuition and health benefits was already a huge disappointment and was made worse by the poor communication, intense workload, and low wages Northwestern offered. Depending on your office, you may encounter dysfunction and a hostile work environment unbecoming of a university that prides itself on being elite.

This job is great as a student because all managers/supervisors are very understanding about flexibility in scheduling, missing shifts, etc. due to classes. There is also often downtime during certain shift times to do homework which is nice.

Some students definitely take advantage of the laid back work environment as an excuse to just not do anything which can be kind of frustrating at times. There is also no chance of getting a raise above what minimum wage is at the time even if you stay at the job for years.

Great opportunities and mentorship, advisor is a good fit and pay is decent.

Self-driven program, you have to know what you want to study coming in

Sometimes shift stacking can result in 5 12 hour shifts in a row

- NU offers a nice retirement match, and the benefits (not pay) are competitive. - The campus is nice.

- The benefits are nice but the pay is really not competitive at all, and there is no salary transparency either. - The culture of your office really depends on who is the head. I had a good relationship with my Director of Operations and Center Director which translated throughout the office, but I have heard countless horror stories of horrible and psychologically abusive faculty to work with, especially in the Materials Science & Engineering department. - At the end of the day, you are staff and are treated as such. If you have toxic faculty members to work with, you are stuck, and HR will do nothing to help you because you are staff and replaceable.

Good pay, Chicago is a great city.
