Pros
Hybrid schedule, flexible with personal appointments, illness, bad weather, etc. Business casual dress code - i.e. jeans Supportive company culture - i.e. crisis support, partnership with betterhelp for free virtual therapy, childcare reimbursement percentage, etc. Great perks - i.e. luncheons, contests with giveaways, goodie bags with vendor merch, cooking demonstrations, etc. Yearly raise Lots of groups to join based on interests On campus exercise classes available - i.e. strength/HIIT, yoga, mobility
Cons
Benefits could be better. Not bad, but just okay Not as easy to earn a performance based raise outside of the yearly raise
Pros
Very easy to get hired in, the newer the store the more unlikely they will write people up for anything. Willing to promote from within.
Cons
They will hire practically anybody, give some video training, then hope for the best. Basic standards and accountability are largely ignored the newer the store. Some management take things seriously and others just show up
Pros
Relaxed environment Nice people Pay is decent for the industry Advancement opportunities
Cons
Upper management sometimes has a disconnect between what they think should be done and what actually can be done, they also seem to lack of understanding in some of the newer technologies that the company uses. A few years back the company got a new inventory management system to make stocking products easier. Instead of using this to increase the quality of work they try to use it to get the same stuff done with less people. This simply does not work because you need a base line amount of people to keep the inventory system maintained and when it is maintained it works amazing but it is cheaper to work fewer people harder I suppose. Can't say for sure if this is true but I was told a big contributing factor to this is that Store Directors get bonuses for keeping costs down... including labor. I left shortly after a new store director is hired though so maybe these problems will be solved.
Pros
Great team. Everyone feels like family. You're valued by your managers. Great benefits. Free College. Flexible schedule
Cons
Get ready to work! As the biggest store in the area, we get a lot of shipments. But, the managers and team work hard for a smooth process.
Pros
Meijer is a great place to get your foot into the retail space. They have a great onboarding process to train you in your job. I would recommend working here only to get experience to then move on to a company who actually cares for you.
Cons
The only way to move up is to be friends with leadership. It has nothing to do with skill or devotion to the company. Also, they (leadership) treat you as robots and not as human beings. It’s all about making money for those in leadership positions and it does not trickle down to those who do the grunt work. It’s a good job if you have co-workers who care about you and are invested in you; however, if you are on a team of people who only want to work and go home, you’ll likely be lonely.
Pros
Easy work to count things. Steady hours and you finish early in teh day to have a life.
Cons
Toxic culture - though I think that may have been just my manager from my understanding. VERY physical job - more than they let on in the interview process.
Pros
Its a very friendly, and pleasant work environment. Everyone is very nice and helpful.
Cons
The company delays the accommodations process by dening paper work, and making your Dr. refill it out, so you give up and just quit so they can replace you in 5 minutes.
Pros
Just the weekly pay - nothing else
Cons
Everything else Fake leadership/mgmt. who promise you mountains, but deliver nothing. Hoping you kick butt despite non-unappreciation and broken or malfunctioned equipment. 'Rewarded' with pizza parties and food trucks instead of decent pay and promotions, while they enjoy generous time off and ample vacations at 75K pay ... I could go on. But you get the idea. Company basically nose-dived after the owner Fred's demise and the Covid, never recovering with downed sales creating 'cutbacks' that prevent part timers from going full-time. Though honestly medicare and individual plans are much cheaper. But down line... the place went to wreck. The fake 'great place to work' signs that plaster the back area, and the "now hiring" that grace the front entrances since 2023. Plain laughing stock as they don't keep folks past the orientation. Not at all what it used to be. Incl. Corporate, who USED to be touchable and helpful. NOW unreachable even via email. Working remotely whatnot, hiding out instead of assisting. The whole climate, just a joke to avoid. Note: only the seniority/lifers mainstay as they're at the high capped pay.
