Pros
-Up to 70% staff discount - 20% off Levi's -If you're a sales assistant it's a perfectly fine retail job
Cons
-The owners/shareholders care more for Barkers than Max. That brand will always be priority with resource and employees more valued at that brand. -There is a culture of ineffective leadership and abysmal communication starting at the top of the Senior Retail Managment Team and flowing down to all retail support roles. -Stores are severly under reasourced. Managers are expected to prep stock, execute the visual merchanising, change windows displays (all on a weekly basis) and have flawless KPI's (units per transaction, average sale value, conversion of customers) - often working sole charge even at busy locations. Managers are responsible for all recruitment including screening, arranging interviews, interviewing and reference checks and uploading all required paperwork. -Managers are expected to spend their time training staff to be expert stylist while accomplishing all of the store tasks above, -All of the above expectations with zero training given to team. The area managers have upwards of 10 stores each and cannot effectively give support where is required. -Only get paid 40 hours per week no matter how much time over you work each week. Managers going over their 40 hours to get everything done is a standard expectation at this business. Staffing ratios are so low and recruitment so slow that management OFTEN work six day weeks to cover their store. -Payrate is below average and store budgets are always set too high to make bonuses. -Manager of a top location didn't have an ASM for over a year because the business couldn't recruit anyone -Product feedback is to be given weekly, to be completely ignored by the product team. The product itself it's the biggest weakspot of this business. -Senior leadership will promise you the moon to keep you happy and retain you, but when it's time to deliver training, promotions or even job security as stores are being closed you will get wishy washy comms and no respect given. You would think there isn't even an HR deparment (person) with how big issues get dealt with in this business. Even employees who have been loyal to the business for upwards of five years get treated badly when you expect the leadership to come through with their promises. -I would not recommend working at this business unless there's a massive upheavil in the company culture and major changes in the senior retail leadership. The grass is genuienly greener elsewhere in this industry.
