      Does Kroger offer employee discounts?

      Going down hill

      Department manager
      Current employee

      Pros

Weekly pay, insurance benefits, employee discount on name brand

      Cons

Very political, lots of drama, multisided instructions from higher-ups, not paid enough for the workload given and expected. You have all the authority to manage yet none at all.

      Business outlook

      Pros

I've found no matter Kroger I work at that my coworkers are amazing and kind. Usually is flexible with my schedule and they offer tuition reimbursement.

      Cons

I work in the Starbucks and they throw away any and all outdated food, they do not donate it. The thing is you can and will be fired for taking any of it home and you only get a 10% employee discount so in terms of store based benefits they aren't very good. Additionally I've worked at 2 different Kroger's now and I have to say that the management at both has been lacking. They are inattentive, inefficient, and insensitive. They usually don't schedule correctly or ignore any requests you try to make about your schedule even if you make them in advance. I usually have to get my reschedule for a week redone about once a month, oftentimes they leave it to me though to get someone to cover my shifts even if the reason my schedule is wrong is them. They refuse to work with you or even do basic parts of their job. It took me 4 week just to be transferred because my managers refused to email another store. It's incredibly frustrating to be on the opposite end constantly calling opposite stores and different stores to resolve an issue only to find out that the issue is your managers.

      Business outlook

      Pros

      employee discount on store brands

      Cons

-Perpetually short staffed yet always trying to cut hours further. (Yay, mess up my paycheck to short me one week then slash a third of my usual hours from my schedule the next week, bet someone got a bonus for reducing labor costs.) -Sometimes we have only 1 employee to cover 3-4 jobs. And it's not entirely lack of hiring. Unlike the 4 (maybe more? Some I never even met before they left) new hires that have come and run screaming in the last 3 months I'm still here. -Managers constantly contradicting each other on what they want done, ripping us apart for not getting back-end stuff done when it's like WTF? Am I supposed to tell the customers at the counter sorry, can't help you, the manager said new salads and sandwiches are a priority and wants them done now? Maybe I should. Let's see how long before some Karen is screaming at them instead of at me about how long it's taking because I'm one person with a line of 4-5 customers. Near useless union.
