What is the salary like at Dollar Tree?

If you value work/life balance, stay away

      District manager
      Current employee
      Columbia, SC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Some of the most dedicated managers, the job itself was easy and the customers were great.

      Cons

Zero work/life balance (worked 100 hours many weeks), The store pay is terrible so the quality and commitment of staff is low resulting in high turnover. The company preaches a good game with great values, but the reality in the stores and field is much different. Feedback is not taken well and seen as a challenge to their authority. Values

Good team, but demanding customers, and little to no holiday off hours. If everyone else is closed you will be working

      Sales associate/cashier
      Current employee
      Tequesta, FL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good team, good management depending on store, easy job, great item values, and decent typical pay.

      Cons

Not really flexible scheduling. Expect to be asked to work extra days if someone calls out, sometimes rude and needy customers, no time off for holidays even when everything else is closed, you will always be working.

      Don't.

      Pros

It depends entirely on who your manager is and who your coworkers are if one or both of those are terrible you'll hate working here

      Cons

You only get minimum wage raise are an absolute joke and this company is a parasite once they raised prices and added things that were more than a dollar it was over I hope this terrible company fails

      Management please do better

      Customer service associate
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Decent hours for part time, pay is slightly above minimum wage, most customers were very nice

      Cons

Management is terrible (depends on store but they are very passive aggressive in my case), make it seem like you're inconveniencing them for asking questions on things you haven't been trained on. Writeups for things you have no control over as well (limit on voids is just ridiculous, some people are indecisive!) No wonder retention is constantly low.

      Not worth your time

      Business outlook

      Pros

      Easy to get the job

      Cons

Low pay, management doesn't care about your time, no room for growth

      No Training

      Operations manager
      Current employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good Benefits that begin day one of hire if you are full time.

      Cons

ASM's are only guaranteed 35 hours per week, though they did try a few time to give me less than that. Never an opportunity for OT No employee discounts Extremely demanding workload Only one paid holiday - Christmas No time and a half on other holidays Absolutely NO beneficial training or guidance other than watching videos Lots of theft that you aren't allowed to do anything about Hard to make employee purchases during a shift due to extreme rules Very low pay for the workload, especially since you will NEVER get 40 hours unless you're salary Extremely difficult to find someone to cover your shift if you need time off or are sick. Have been told that I could not leave, even when sick, until the store closed. All decisions seemed to be driven by corporate pencil pushers and investment firms that could care less about the employees. Staffing is kept at bare minimum and often isn't enough

      Pros

Early morning hours with no customers

      Cons

Very poor pay and a lot of work

      Terrible company. Steer Clear!

      Cashier
      Former employee
      San Antonio, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Quick hiring process Honestly can't think of any others.

      Cons

Almost everything. The pay is terrible and responsibility list is lengthy. There are no pay differentials based on what work you are doing (e.g. cashier register, unloading trucks, stocking ... etc). There is no security at most stores, making the work somewhat dangerous at times. Most locations that I was familiar with were understaffed, and there were always problems with retention. Bottom line, unless you are absolutely desperate, and need money ASAP, I would recommend not working here.
