Pros
the regulars that come in the store are super nice and respectful. they make every shift worth working. the starting pay is decent, much better than any other gas station/convenience store, although you end up working way harder than what you get paid for. my store manager was very nice and understanding. I am a hard worker, and two or three weeks into the job my manager took notice and offered me a promotion to assistant manager, but it has been several months since then and I have yet to receive the promotion.
Cons
most of the employees don't do their jobs, so by the time I would get on second shift, which runs usually 1-2pm to 10pm, I would be working the second by myself and end up having to do three peoples jobs. the morning shift rarely did much. if a truck came in at the end of the overnight shift, and the morning shift had three to four people working the first shift, two on register, nothing from the truck got put away, so by the time I would get there for my shift I would be working alone and end up having to ring up customers, unload and stock everything from the truck, clean, all the time being by myself and barely even getting a bathroom break. just to use the bathroom the store had to be empty and I had to lock the doors, but by the time it would be almost empty, another customer would walk in. just locking the doors for under five minutes to use the restroom and customers would be pissed and rude for having to wait only a few minutes. they offer health, dental, and vision insurance, but literally nowhere accepts the insurance they offer.. not even the hospital. also, there was so little coverage. the store I worked at had the overnight kid working 10pm - 6am seven nights a week, with little to no days off for months. he was exhausted, and in turn was always late to work. so I would be scheduled to get off work at 10pm, but end up leaving sometimes half an hour late, sometimes two and a half hours. I was not given keys so I could not lock the store and go home. I would also get disciplined for clocking out late, while also being told I had to stay until the overnight coverage came. leaving past the time I was scheduled would end up getting me locked out of my gated community, forcing me to sleep in my car and in turn making me late for my next shift. when my car broke down I couldn't ever find a ride home because out of the entire time I worked there I probably only got out of work when I was scheduled to leave around seven times. they claim to accept people with criminal backgrounds, but after an arrest (no conviction yet) I have been taken off the schedule until my charges either get dropped or I get charged. when I went into my store with my significant other to speak with my manager, my co-worker rudely informed my significant other that "I got fired and no longer worked there" all while being told by my manager that I was not yet fired, only taken off the schedule until my court date. there is a lot of gossiping and petty drama, as with almost every job I have ever experienced.
