What is working from home like at Atlassian?

      Pros

Great culture, good employee benefits and can work from home or be in the office if you want.

      Cons

The work can be sometimes dull and honestly have no clue how performance is evaluated.

Great perks and salary, however beware of challenging work pace

      Pros

      * Total salary compensation is competitive * Great benefits, such as work from home and paid parental leave * Good indication of diversity, at least on the teams around me. There are good balance of gender and cultural backgrounds.

      Cons

Ironically, during COVID in 2020 - 2021 was a much better time to work at Atlassian. Back then, there were more support on our wellbeing, for example providing COVID special leave and additional recharge days. People that I worked with were welcoming and truly living the Atlassian values. Overtime, the culture turned backwards, no more recharge days and they introduced more and more performance metrics to measure us against each other. People are more anxious and in a race to increase their PR counts. There is also a strong focus on proving your individual contributions, hence we need to constantly collect evidences on our work and impact. All of this combine leads to a never ending burn out. If you already in a job that you enjoy and considering Atlassian, I would advise to really rethink if the salary and advertised benefits are really worth your mental health. Also the benefit policies are constantly changing, so they might not be as great in the coming future.

      Pros

This is the best company I've worked at in my career. Great pay, new laptop (keep old after 3 years), work from home forever, great office and free food. I generally like most Atlassian products and believe in their value proposition.

      Cons

I've worked with smart people here and I've worked with people who are not smart. The not-smart people that scammed their way through the interview process during the rapid hiring over covid are a drain on this company.

      Breath of fresh air here!

      Pros

Team anywhere, you can work from home and commute to the local office when needed or to participate in fun, team gatherings, or important team meetings, but not a requirement, love the flexibility here. Unlimited Time off - able to recharge the batteries when needed and take the time to feel rested and reset to show up as your best self at work. They really honor and balance this well. Great culture - they walk the talk and truly live their core values. It comes through in all of their work and is at the forefront of their messaging and meetings, always.

      Cons

Onboarding process is overall smooth and well thought out, but varies significantly from team to team, and by department. For example, Engineering EA experience may be vastly different from Sales and Marketing EA - even though all roll up to the same cost center, just different management and oversight. They are working to improve this. The ramp up to onboarding is supposed to be 2-4 weeks before start the role (doing the work) and some get thrown into the fire faster, depending on leader, needs and fires to put out. Recent change in 2025 to benefits sharing, employees will start contributing to health benefits (really cool they didn't used to) but will now have employees take part in costs sharing. Its minimal but still sad to see it go away, but understandable. Travel for EA's can also vary by team and Leaders needs, so this is a bit all over the place. Would be great to have more consistency around travel expectations.
