Pros
Equipment is provided. I had a schedule that fit well with me. The job itself is very easy. No complicated systems you have to learn, or a whole lot of knowledge that you need. They have a great Assist team and Wiki resources. They have a den period for some weeks which allows you to learn from a coach while also taking calls.
Cons
Firstly, I found out on the day of my firing that I was actually supposed to be making $15, instead of $14.50. I'm not a business person but how does a mistake like that happen? Secondly, the job has potential but you are expected to lie constantly. Patients ask questions and you have to 'redirect' them and not answer them immediately. This leads to patients being annoyed! This IS a sales job, so you will be hounded to make the sale at all costs. If Aspen Dental doesn't take a patient's insurance, you are expected to convince that person regardless! Not only is that difficult and makes the patient think less of you/the company, but it affects your metrics. If you don't have a certain percentage of appointments/sales, then you don't qualify for your bonus. EVERY call that you take, goes to your score. However, not every call is a sales opportunity. It may be an existing patient, or someone just looking to get info. They do not care, you HAVE to make that sale. If you are a salesperson then great! This is an easy job. I, however, did not feel comfortable lying to patients. We are misleading the patient into thinking whatever they may need will be solved. The patient does not know that the first visit is always an exam and x-ray. A big thing that I did not agree with whatsoever, was the company OUTRIGHT said, to not ask for permission. I received a coaching email that literally said to not ask for permission and to keep going through the call. If an appointment doesn't work for someone, we force them to take it and not ask permission. We say, 'I'll go ahead and schedule you for this appointment, that way you have it as a backup.' Patients are rightfully NOT happy about this. They either hang up, or get angry with you, or SOMETIMES they give in. I could speak on a lot more but I hope someone reads this so they know what they're getting into. Lastly, they recently came out with a cancellation fee but guess what? We received an email to NOT let the patient know there is a cancellation fee. ONLY when they call in to complain. Why not negate that whole process and be truthful and honest and tell them upfront? Because then this sales position becomes anything but, and Aspen Dental makes even less money. I could not be with such a dishonest company. I was already planning on leaving when they let me go. And one genuinely last thing, this department is competition HEAVY. They rank you as an individual and as a team. During the den period, there was BIG competition and I couldn't help but feel bad when I wasn't doing as well as everyone else. They are constantly sending gifs and 'motivating' you to make the sale. I have more I could say but I am glad to leave this company behind.
