Great opportunity to get your foot in the door but no career development
Pros
Joined at a time of rapid growth. Culture within our team was the best I’d ever experienced. Everyone pitched in during busy times and were committed to creating an impact for the community of users. Worked with very passionate colleagues who were purpose driven both in my own team and cross functionally. As we were a small team, direct manager gave us freedom to manage projects and gain experience beyond the scope of our role responsibilities. It was a good place to gain hands on experience in pretty much any discipline you wanted to learn about for the first 2 years.
Cons
Multiple restructures & high turnover. After multiple yearly reviews where I had shown considerable growth in my role and excelled after taking on more responsibility I was told there was no further room for growth. Direct management took months to decide on new title and role description that could reflect my progression. Despite telling me I was valuable to the team , was unable to clearly define a path forward. I submitted resignation during the time they were actively interviewing to expand the team. I helped interview & hire a new candidate whose role was planned to support the team in similar capacity but allegedly not a replacement for my role which they noted would still need to be replaced. They stayed in the role only one year and went back to previous employer. 3 years later I’ve seen the role advertised again but as a blend of roles previously filled by 2 FTE . There’s a lasting impression that the company isn’t willing to invest in the resources needed to match their growth.
