The Role – Mechanical Engineer

The role of Mechanical Engineer is to provide mechanical engineering support to the construction team to ensure the effective delivery of mechanical systems in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The role involves the planning, coordination, and technical oversight of mechanical works to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution—delivered on time, within budget, and without incidents—while ensuring full system functionality and seamless handover to the client.

Typical tasks include but are not limited to the following:
Ensure all mechanical works are carried out safely in accordance with industry, site, and client-specific safety requirements, including conducting site walkdowns, preparing RAMS/Method Statements, and liaising with client representatives
Resolve all mechanical-related enquiries and technical clarifications (RFIs) in a timely and efficient manner
Liaise with fabrication workshops on piping and equipment prefabrication, coordinating priorities, inspection and testing requirements, and associated documentation
Coordinate and oversee installation of mechanical systems including piping, HVAC, and process equipment to meet project requirements for cost, schedule, and quality
Prepare and generate mechanical work scope documentation, including technical specifications for subcontract packages such as HVAC, insulation, scaffolding, painting, and cleanroom systems
Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), raise material requisitions, plan deliveries, and manage materials on-site to support construction activities
Attend client, subcontractor, and internal project meetings as required to provide mechanical engineering input
Coordinate with resource managers for site personnel mobilization/demobilization, including inductions and maintenance of associated records
Review mechanical designs and drawings to ensure constructability and compliance, raising RFIs and tracking technical queries as required
Carry out site surveys and work closely with foremen and supervisors to resolve mechanical installation issues and ensure correct implementation
Monitor and record labour hours, maintain site diaries, support pricing of minor works, and manage project variations/change requests
Work closely with Quantity Surveyors on cost control, including pricing variations, reworks, and progress reporting, ensuring works align with technical specifications and design intent
Plan, prepare, and review testing and commissioning documentation in line with the Project Quality Plan and relevant standards (e.g., pressure testing, HVAC commissioning)
Support the Construction Manager in project reporting, providing updates on mechanical progress and technical issues
Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, and records within internal systems and document management platforms
Prepare and coordinate mechanical handover packages, including as-built drawings, test certification, and O&M manuals
Liaise with QA/QC personnel to ensure all mechanical works comply with project specifications, codes, and industry standards
Prepare and manage snag lists, ensuring timely close-out of mechanical defects
Report monthly EHS statistics and ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
Inspect all mechanical works, including subcontractor activities, for quality, safety, and compliance
Conduct final site walkdowns with clients to achieve system acceptance and project completion
Prepare and review technical documentation relating to subcontracted mechanical works
Ensure adherence to project quality plans, procedures, and internal company standards


Person Specification

Education, Training & Experience

Degree Qualification Mechanical Engineering, Construction or equivalent
Proficient in suite of Microsoft applications, Word, Excel.
Proficient in the use of Navis Works or equivalent packages.
Completion of Management of Safety in Construction (MSIC) – desirable.
Min 2 years relevant work placement experience as mechanical engineer is required.
Experienced in process industry in piping fabrication, installation and testing.
