Asset managers are responsible for the management of client assets. This role requires managers to regularly study and respond to market changes and to regularly communicate with clients about potential changes that may impact investment portfolios or other forms of assets. Asset managers must travel regularly to meet with stakeholders and must generate reports in a timely manner for each client. Asset managers can advance to analyst and senior analyst positions after successful years of service and additional educational attainment.
Asset managers require a Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related fields. A Master's degree in business administration (MBA) may be preferred in some cases. Additionally, asset managers may need to possess a Certified Public Accountant title, which will require additional training and testing. This role requires individuals who are highly self-motivated, utilize effective communication skills, and can quickly solve problems.
