Pros

This job was a dream come true. I love the atmosphere, what the company strived for, the cute displays. I didn't even mind the fast paced work and constant overbearing work-load. I thought it was fun, a constant race against time against the new truck that would come and clog our backroom the next week. This place paid me very well but only because of the STL that hired me in believed in hiring for retainment and offered a great starting pay.

Cons

Confused Corporate. They would constantly send two or three different display sets and then decide all of them were supposed to go in the same place yet not allow mixing of sets. The culture is incredibly cliquey, if you're not in with upper management, you're out. You will get the cold shoulder, they will refuse to speak to you. If you perform poorly in their eyes you will hear about it but only because upper management thought it was appropriate to approach part-timers and associates instead of communicating directly. It's incredibly childish and high-school like.

Pros

Benefits were nice, pay was solid, appreciated having peers that you could bounce ideas off of. Enjoyed the customers we had and the seasonal sets.

Cons

Can’t decide whether they’re pOpshelf owned or Dollar General owned. One day it’s a PS policy, the next it’s a DG policy yet uppers claim they’re getting away from the DG side. They don’t pay out PTO, don’t offer sick days, and staffing is minimal to none. They expect stores to keep up the same standard across the board, yet some stores are using 200+ hours of payroll while others run at 125, and they continue to add more on top while trying to finish other tasks. It’s become very micromanaged, you’re always submitting photos and reports for something, god forbid you forget to check it off. Trucks are hit or miss. You’re either getting the right amount or more, OR DG product. It’s hard to plan because you can’t really anticipate what’s coming besides an estimated carton count. Also, if you get dismissed, don’t expect them to have your last paycheck correct because that part also runs under the DG side rather than pOpshelf side. All in all, it was great at the beginning, but it’s kind of a relief to not have to work there anymore.
