Interesting work clouded by a toxic management culture - Technical Writer ngmoco Employee Review

Pros

There was some interesting cross-platform work being explored when I worked there. The material was challenging and the engineers were committed, passionate, and a pleasure to work with.

Cons

Internal competition and politicking were imported by hiring from some of the worst boiler-rooms in gaming. Management was not selected for any kind of technical savvy, leading to people with no experience in an area having substantial power to evaluate the quality of work being done. Salary was sub-par, even for gaming, which lags substantially behind other software areas. The usual dreadful treatment of women and minorities, which isn't even surprising out of a gaming company any more.

Pros

A company that has a definite vision and plan to dominate the mobile space, and it is a plan that I believe in.

Cons

Our aggressive goals often end up equaling long hours. The company does acknowledge this, and recognizes people for their contributions.

Pros

Good work -life balance, kind and warm people they make this company, some good fringe benefits like free lunch and breakfast, stocked drinks and snacks, shuttle and game room

Cons

.the people are very nice but this i kind of in general a lot of them not experienced with their jobs or dont know what their jobs actually consist of or even who their managers are [leadership's fault not theirs] .weak management and inexperienced leadership .very reactive environment, almost like chickens with heads cut off, not enough planning. .can't tell if we are still a start up or a world class company, wants to have structured environment with lots of bureaucracy but wants teams to be agile, so is contradicting .bad/lack of sensible hiring and promotion process so lots of incompetent people in influential positions (or lack of experience). .product quality not consistent and no cohesion. .not very aware of the customers
