Pros

The benefits are ok for full time (vision/dental/health/401k). Major veterinary discounts. Sometimes they ordered food. Not worth your mental health though.

Cons

Dishonest about training process. Had basic shelter med knowledge and was told they would teach me the skills needed for the job. Most training received was online and the person “training” me was either busy or not scheduled that day. After a week I was told I was ready to take rooms alone. They wanted me to just figure it out. I would ask other techs for help to find out what to charge for visits etc. sometimes they were busy though/sometimes they’d give me one word answers and not explain. Depending on which vet you are working with it would also be difficult because the have different preferences than an other. One will up sell and be very impersonal/ another genuinely seems to get you the best deal and care for pet. It’s a roll of the dice. Lied about flexible scheduling. Said that after the first couple of weeks I would revive a set schedule either mornings or evenings with rotating Saturdays. Nope, random schedule and now I find out everyone works Saturdays except the bosses. Cliquey like high school. After the first week I find out there is al kinds of drama. So and so hates so and so, and so and so is dating this person but it’s a secret. Stuff I didn’t want to know. Also some people are lazier that others. Overheard someone say the took bad ex rays and don’t want to redo them so they didn’t. That’s a lot of money someone is paying and you can’t be bothered to do your job right. Overall during the hiring process, they made it seem like everyone gets along and we are a team here to help you. Then you start and they expect you to figure it out on your own. Really discouraging and made question everything that is VCA. No trust for this place.

Pros

This company offers many opportunities for doctors and techs to grow in their careers. They provide tons of support and they've been making HUGE changes to veterinary medicine on a whole. I have never known another company to offer so many benefits and perks for staff (especially techs), and they're even making lots of effort to invest in the veterinary receptionists-the front line associates of the hospital. They're also making great strides to acknowledge some of the feedback we've had for many years. They're savvy and smart, making business decisions that build on a company that will be around a long time (and has.)

Cons

There have been times where transparency and communication are lacking, and sometimes to the point where hospital-level employees feel left out or unheard. Some bigger topics like onboarding and navigating what support comes from where could be more clear. It feels like they've been fusing on new concepts/policies/features to the company, making it feel like a clunky machine rather than building something new and streamlined. Maybe it's in the works, but how do we know down here?
