Pros
This review is only for the property management side of this business, I cannot speak to the real estate side of Utopia Management. The property management industry, by nature, is fast paced and an ever changing work environment. No two days are the same. Which I found exciting and exhilarating, but keep in mind it can be extremely overwhelming for some people. The employees who work at Utopia Management became more like family, than just coworkers. It's a great group of people (primarily women) who support and encourage growth in one another. The managers were always understanding of personal needs or time off. It's very much a "work hard, play hard" vibe among the employees from the manager level down.
Cons
The President and Vice President are brothers and they tend to rule the office by instilling fear in employees, which does not make for a positive work environment. It's a rather small office with 20/30 something employees, so the fear tactic can really kill the office for days or weeks on end. They'll be overly nice to some and then pick someone to bully for a bit, it's very toxic and difficult to witness. The brothers play favorites, rather than paying attention to client satisfaction or work ethic. They are not consistent with their expectations, or when/for what, someone will be chastised. The pay and benefits that are offered are not up to par with competitors, especially taking into consideration portfolio size. I constantly needed to question the ethics of directives and business decisions being made from the top down. The poor work environment is reflected in the high turnover rate of employees; people leave and are fired at an alarming rate.
