Pros
Within Information Technology, they're very willing to trust their employees, especially when it comes to trying something different. If you think an endeavor is worth your time, and you make a good case to the VP for IT, they generally support innovation.
Cons
The university environment is a political nightmare. Departmental feuds going back almost 50 years got in the way of major projects moving forward. Management spend a lot of time trying to soothe wounded egos, but they eventually draw the line and drop a project if it gets too ridiculous.
