Pros

The people were a highlight of my time at the company. Peers and managers are all stellar and really care about the work. I appreciated and took advantage of the ample runway given for professional growth: in my experience, my managers were excited to give me the space to take on more responsibility and professional development was supported. There is also opportunity to become a key point of contact externally if you have consultant polish.

Cons

Diversity of work was an area of growth and improvement at the time I left. I was able to work on a variety of high-profile/differentiated policy and entitlement projects, but you have to advocate for yourself and have a good track record to get there. Bottlenecks at the point of Principal review were also a challenge.

Pros

Coworkers are amazing. Staff is very collaborative and supportive. Tons of room for professional growth. If you are ready to take on more responsibility and project management experience this is the place to be. Every day is dynamic and interesting. Perks are nice! It's the little things that make the difference.

Cons

As with many consulting firms, work life balance is a hard one to strike. Work ebbs and flows, so sometimes there is too much work, and sometimes there isn't enough. CEQA is our bread and butter, though we are trying to expand practice areas. Opportunities to work on other projects aren't always supported.

Pros

Firm gets cool work due to limited local consulting field

Cons

Crossing of personal and professional boundaries. No HR department so nowhere to turn for mediation of issues or unprofessionalism of management. Unprofessional is putting it lightly.
