Pros
I loved my coworkers and it was a fun job. I enjoyed the discount, which really made a difference on expensive gear. We often received free gear from companies which was also a cool plus. Lots of discount events through different suppliers. I liked the hours a lot, too. Most days, shifts didn't go later than 7:30, which is pretty good for a part-time position. My shifts normally didn't begin until 10. Customer base was consistent, tons of regulars. You learn a lot a about products, and the retail work becomes less about just selling stuff and more about selling good stuff, and knowing why the specific gear is worth the customer's money. I personally enjoyed learning about the products and being a source of info for customers who needed assistance. Felt more important than just stocking shelves and telling a customer where something is located.
Cons
Management can be a little bit too sales-forward (I know profit is a priority, but sometimes it was just a bit much). Lots of vandalism. Pay isn't great, and not a huge pay difference between being an associate and an assistant manager. Breaks are too short, 15 mins to eat a lunch unless you want to clock out, and then you get 30 mins only. Sales team lacks diversity.
