Pros
Some of the best people you'll ever meet will be from the US military. If you're enlisted take advantage of the tuition assistance when on active duty and use your GI Bill benefits when you're out.
Cons
If you're smart enough, try and get an NROTC scholarship after high school. You can also try getting commissioned when you're enlisted. The quality of life is much better for officers than for enlisted personnel.
