Pros

Schedule flexibility. Decent entry level pay and benefits. Industry experience - you will learn a lot, very quickly. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable senior staff. Most work is local; you might see your printed work worn by people in town. Genuinely impressive custom built order management system. A demonstrated investment in improving decorating processes. Management is hardworking and very dedicated to their business. All three owners work directly in and have expertise in most aspects of production. Management can be receptive to very critical feedback, and is willing to adjust specific behavior for individual employees with direct confrontation.

Cons

High turnover. Management holds open, vocalized contempt for customers, past employees, and current workers. Poorly performing employees are scapegoated and aggressively bullied out of the company in place of being fired. Severe micromanaging. Near constant second guessing of worker decisions, including decisions made by other department heads. Inappropriately fixated on individual blame at the expense of effectively resolving production issues. Errors are regarded as evidence of poor character and low intelligence. Often adversarial in discussion; uses mind games, nitpicks word choice, plays dumb, and withholds information in attempts to test or corner employees. Willing to outright insult and intimidate employees, especially new hires, when irritated. Unwilling to give employees the respect of clear expectations. Talks down with inefficient guessing games and patronizing leading questions. Condescends. Overstates complexity of tasks. Pressure to be specific is met with visible discomfort and frustration. Instruction and feedback is given with little regard to an employee's demonstrated strengths or weaknesses, and frequently packaged with passive aggressive, disparaging comments. Clarifying questions, push back on decisions, or suggesting new processes are often interpreted as an insult to authority. Platitudes are repeated in place of actionable guidelines. Little to no documentation for routine procedures. Missing basic professional courtesies, such as job descriptions or easily accessible benefit information. Regular political talk in office. Low morale, strange culture. Employees rarely talk to each other, or even exchange simple greetings. No climate control in the building.
