Pros

There are none for this place.

Cons

If you're smart (and I know you are) you'll see through all the vague "positive" feedback posts on this site. I worked for this place for a year and was treated exactly like those who wrote negative reviews. I saw many people come and go, all coincidentally just before their year was up, including myself. I presume so there would be little to no raises to pay out. It is a dizzying environment to keep everyone straight with the constant hiring/firing. Pay attention to the reviewer that mentions the in-house contest for positive reviews. Did you notice that the bulk of these are incredibly general in content and how they are primarily "anonymous employee" listings? If you choose to work here, just know that you will not be valued, be it pay, benefits or otherwise. I have met recruiters, former employees and let's just say this company's reputation is notorious.

The Mx Group Response
7y
We’re sorry you didn’t have a good experience here at Mx. While we know that each person’s experience is unique and everyone is entitled to their opinion, several things mentioned in this review are not true and we would like to clear up the facts. This review implies that it’s common practice for employees to be let go just prior to their 1-year anniversary, and that the reason behind it is to avoid paying raises. That is just not true. In the past 5 years, we haven’t had a single person terminated in the 3 months leading up to their first anniversary. In addition, our salary reviews are aligned with the calendar year (Jan 1), not anniversary dates. Beyond that, the spirit of this review is inaccurate. Our employee tenure and retention are quite high, especially compared to other companies in our industry. Our average employee tenure for current employees is 6 years. Of all of the hires we’ve made in the past 2 years, 89% of are still employed here. We’ve been named as one of the Best Places to Work in IL for five years in a row, and one of the Best & Brightest Companies in Chicago for the past three years. Our company is financially strong and growing, and we’re hiring! We encourage those reading this review to check us out for yourself. www.themxgroup.com/careers

Pros

The people and company culture are amazing. The workload can be a little intense sometimes, but Mx takes the extra step to ensure an awesome work environment filled with amazing people. I felt a great deal of support, not just in day-to-day activities but career growth as well, especially from my managers. I never felt dumb asking questions. There was always someone willing to help. I felt like I was truly part of a team.

Cons

A typical workday is very meeting-heavy making focus time difficult to come by.

Pros

MX Group has talented individual contributors, but the agency is weighed down by stagnant leadership and a culture that discourages innovation. Much of upper and middle management has remained in place for well over a decade, and it shows. There’s very little fresh thinking, limited professional evolution, and an overwhelming sense of complacency that has slowly filtered through the organization. The leadership culture feels extremely risk-averse. Sandbagging is common, and employees are encouraged to protect themselves rather than push boundaries or experiment with new ideas. Outside-the-box thinking is often punished unless it originates directly from senior leadership, which creates an environment where creativity and initiative are stifled instead of rewarded. The office culture itself feels dated and overly rigid. There’s an intense clock-watching mentality that makes the environment feel more like a call center than a modern digital agency. For a company branding itself around Chicago talent and innovation, the location and atmosphere feel disconnected from that identity. Compensation is below industry averages for many roles, though benefits are acceptable. The company would benefit greatly from healthy turnover and the introduction of new perspectives, modern best practices, and leadership willing to embrace change. Unfortunately, the current culture seems resistant to exactly that. The CEO works hard, but the leadership style often feels out of place for a modern digital agency. Ultimately, the company feels stuck between what it once was and what it needs to become. Without meaningful cultural and leadership evolution, the long-term outlook feels concerning. P.S. - There is a silent/ private acknowledgement that the overwhelming majority of employees want out, but have a difficult time landing new roles as they continue to waste away at MX.

Cons

Virtually everything, besides a few select employees
