Pros
As long as you get along with the people at Home Depot, this job is mindless.
Cons
There are more cons than pros at this job. -You are working in a Home Depot everyday, as an associate, but for the three brands. -It’s rare to get training from your manager, I was given three days of training and left on my own at a High Volume store. -Your schedule will constantly change. Whether that be from M-F to T-S or 8:30-4:30pm. They lie in the interview process. In any case, there’s a chance you will only get Sunday off during the transition. -Surprise visits from your manager and then do a store walk to discuss everything you’re doing wrong without proceeding with advice for improvement. -Leadership development program is not consistent. Being here a year, I haven’t been approached by my manager for future plans with the company/or asked during performance evaluation. Someone on my team who hasn't been there a year got promoted before those who have more seniority. -Aggressive tactics to approach customers in aisle made me uncomfortable. Teaching employees to “K*ll the competition” is not professional in any way. -They offered a vehicle and gas card then took it away, a prime benefit for employees and supplemented it with $.96/hr which working in California is only enough for gas. Nor wear and tear on your vehicle and make you get business vehicle insurance. -They took the vehicles in waves so, your coworker could have a company vehicle while you drive your own car. Managers are able to keep their vehicles. -You’re supposed to be given power tools for demos and store use for projects but you are not given proper training in handling a drill or sometimes never even receive the power tools at all which limits your job. Totally unsafe, what would OSHA think. -Unnecessary heavy lifting. -Was given a raise ($.36 cents) and my co-worker who worked TWO months longer than I received a larger raise. While we do the same amount of work. Performance wasn’t evaluated properly. -102 Training, makes you room with a stranger, that could be anyone in the company.
