Pros

Some incredibly lovely and smart people work at Tank. There is certainly an intention to make things fun so there are some interesting days/events/parties, and often beer in the fridge.

Cons

As with many smaller agencies, the teams run especially lean at Tank and with zero processes in place there is no lattice to support the variety of scenarios that crop up daily. The burden of last-minute requests from absurd clients (who will never hear the word 'no') will almost inevitably fall to those who 'can' stay late and work excessive hours, so basically none of the partners and no one with children. It seems as though some people are running around constantly trying to build their career and covering for everyone else, while others have hung on for years and use Tank as a way to kill time between weekends. Upper management has perfected the four day work week. The sad thing is that this place had an opportunity to be great at one point, but the owners just want to phone it in. Don't be lured in with proclamations of low turnover, minimal burnout, and a fun community; none of that could be further from the truth. Low turnover sure, but you'll quickly identify this set of people who would probably stay in their seats through an apocalyptic event (before peeling out at 4pm and ruminating on everyone else's shortcomings ). People are just spinning their wheels while the company flat lines. In the end, like pretty much any company, Tank does not actually care about their employees no matter how much the powers that be tell themselves a different narrative every day. Would not recommend.

Pros

The folks who work at Tank are amazing, patient, and kind, they really push the envelope with their work, and will become fast friends. Hanging out after work was always a highlight. A lot of the work I've been able to contribute to has been top notch and I feel a lot of pride with what Tank has empowered me to do. No one is looking over your shoulder there, you are trusted to complete your work, and learn as you go.

Cons

Tank has several partners who have gone into retirement, who no longer show up at the office, but still have controlling interests in the company. The remaining leadership is white, male, with old print and visual design backgrounds, preferring abstraction and Swiss design. Not necessarily a bad thing, except when it comes to understanding market trends, and what is necessary for effective modern product design. I have heard rumor of many recent layoffs as well and know several really talented designers have already found new jobs. The user experience team has also flattened. No bad blood from me, though, I hope they can one day return to what they were before the pandemic.
