Pros
There are so many tasks to do, shifts pass by pretty quickly. Friendly regular customers
Cons
Job responsibilities are absolutely nowhere near worth the pay. Started at 9$ a hr, worked 2 years, received 75 cent raise. Severely short staffed, injured myself numerous times due to short staff & pressure from management to complete duties that were not apart of shift description. Company is in a Union. Joining the union is mandatory or you will be terminated, in which I wasn't informed until working for about two months. you have to pay 400$ initiation fee, in which 15$ is deducted from each check, in addition every third paycheck 48 dollars was deducted. For 9.00 minus these fees, position is definitely not worth it Safeway hires you & pressures you to do two job descriptions for single pay. Working here resulted in me having a injured risk & severe anxiety from being forced to do a two person job alone. sacrificed breaks, couldn't use the restroom. So short staffed, those who are ill are pressured into working anyway. Employees are turned against each other due to pressure. Manager of department was very disrespectful & demanding. Talked about her employees to other workers. I had a horrible experience. I definitely do not recommend working for Safeway. They hire a limited amount of people on purpose in order to save funds & have employees do double, even triple the work. Very hard to advance from department, despite my multiple & great reviews, and me inquiring about growing with the company and moving to cashier, I was completely over looked & brushed off
