Pros
Unfortunately, there are very few positives to report about RSSL. However, the semi-frequent chocolate shop was a nice addition ( if you enjoy out of date Mondelez products). I genuinely felt that most of my colleagues at a junior level were kind and hardworking individuals, and they are the ones that showed genuine support towards each other and lifted team spirits during difficult periods of stress and understaffing.
Cons
The first negative I would like to highlight is one that has been felt consistently by many peers and former colleagues, and one that time and time again, RSSL fail to acknowledge and sweep under the carpet. This is the bullying management and HR culture, compounded by incompetence, that fails to listen to employees, especially junior ones when complaints are made. The senior leadership team are happy to put on a front of 'caring for staff' and 'speaking up about problems', but in practise, staff are often told to keep concerns quiet, are left in tears in meetings after threatening interactions, and have been given incorrect advice from HR that directly opposes their own policies, and leads to the detriment of staff's mental health. Many staff have little to no confidence in the management. Secondly, the promotion of employees to managerial and senior positions is flawed. Often times, staff will be promoted based on their length of service with a distinct lack of regard towards their academic qualifications or merit. Some managers possess little technical skills and knowledge in the fields they are supposed to be leading in. On the other hand, talented and motivated junior staffs are kept at lower positions and severely overworked. Thirdly, RSSL has an extremely high turnover rate, with many staff members staying for less than 1 year at the company. This is a real shame as they seem to attract high calibre talent, but no matter what marketing suggests and company values supposedly uphold, if staff are not happy, they will leave, and they frequently do. Overall, I would suggest you do not work at RSSL. This is not a happy company for many.
