Sadly not a place that feels like a start up - Sales Executive Placed (UK) Employee Review

Pros

I met some great people and colleagues soon became friends.

Cons

The targets are so unrealistic that it is impossible to earn good money. Targets are constantly being changed week on week so the instability is very unsettling and morale in the team was often quite glum. I think the premise of what Placed is looking to do and achieve makes sense but very far away from anything tangible or impactful. I understand that revenue is key but every meeting company wide or with the team felt like a daily pressure reminder about revenue and targets. It was quite micro managey and this didn’t create the best environment.

Pros

Having worked for a number of companies large and small, I made a great effort to be very selective when seeking my next role. I pleased to be able to say that it wasn't effort wasted. As a young company with grand ambitions, there is inevitably going to be a need to be very agile, as things will always move fast at a start-up. That is one of the benefits of being a small but rapidly growing firm. It also means you have a great deal of autonomy and can have a tangible impact on the direction of the business. Allied to that is a management team that are ambitious, pragmatic and open minded. Everyone has a voice.

Cons

Naturally a start-up environment isn't for everyone. Those that are ambitious in mind, and entrepreneurial in spirit will thrive, but start-ups are not the place to cruise. There are plenty of large firms where you can stay in your lane and work anonymously, but when you are part of such a small team, everyone is accountable and trying to deliver a shared vision.

Pros

The business has gotten through a tough period (which has affected the whole industry) and is making positive, proactive changes to become even better for clients and employees. Colleagues are really friendly and everyone is keen to support each other - making the vibe in the office really nice and getting better. As the business grows and learns, things will continue to get better too - like with all start ups, it's not all figured out and rosy from day one!

Cons

The market is still recovering, which means as client managers we need to work hard to keep clients engaged and seeing the value in Placed (even if it's obvious), which is understandable as budgets are tight and things continue to be a bit unknown for businesses.
