Pros

One of the only boutique firms in Montreal that handles IP and entertainment law. Boss is very well-connected so get to handle interesting and relevant cases. Boss is clearly very good at what he does and is willing to pay for additional courses to make employees as knowledgeable about the field as he is.

Cons

While I think it's okay to be aware of how good you are at your job, there's a certain level at which you just start to appear full of yourself. I felt very patronized whenever I made a mistake and found the way he spoke to the other employees too abrasive. There seems to be a disparity between how he thinks he comes off to his employees and reality. I can appreciate good intentions but the reality was that the way I was spoken to made me feel like there was nothing I could do to improve my situation except leave. I can only attest to how terrible I felt for most of my time working there due to interactions with the boss. The minimum wage law in Quebec does not protect interns and he chose to use this to pay an unlivable low wage. The salary was bad enough for 9-5 hours but I was also explicitly told I was expected to work beyond those hours.

Pros

PL has everything a committed, eager-to-learn intern or young professional can hope for. The team is hardworking, engaged, and supportive. If you have big dreams of crafting a role for yourself in a small, innovative firm where you will be encouraged and challenged, PL is the place for you. Commitment, curiosity, and initiative will be rewarded and accelerate your learning in ways you probably did not think were possible. Focus is put on quality over quantity, and you will undoubtebly get out what you put in.

Cons

If you do not like to be challenged, PL is not the place for you as standards are high.
