Pros

Start off with matching 401k at 3% Lots of horizontal mobility to different units. Teaching hospital. Trauma 1 facility. Low cost limited life insurance. Some units have a lot of equipment/technology. You see all those nice buildings on campus? Not really HCA; foundations provide the cool things which is a pro and a con.

Cons

It takes 2 years to become 20% vested in 401k. Constant flow of pompous residents. Lack of doc ordered parameters. HCA Rewards benefits package is a joke. The consumer savings programs don't save money. Expensive short term disability insurance. Corporate leaders constantly cashing out HCA's assets and making outstanding returns for themselves at the detriment of the company, its employees, and patients. Mandatory assigned parking at off-site garage is time consuming and a hassle. Some units lack a lot of equipment/technology. Computerized charting is DOS (ancient) based.

Pros

Workplace Culture and Team Collaboration: Many employees appreciate the supportive, family-like atmosphere and strong teamwork within their teams and across departments. They value the camaraderie, inclusivity, and mutual respect that foster a positive work environment focused on patient care. Meaningful Work and Patient Impact: Employees find motivation and satisfaction in knowing their work directly or indirectly improves patient care and community health. This sense of purpose is a significant driver of engagement.

Cons

Degree Requirements and Career Advancement: Many employees express concern that strict degree requirements, especially for IT roles, hinder career progression and demoralize experienced staff without degrees. There is a strong preference for recognizing equivalent experience or certifications in lieu of formal degrees to promote internal mobility and retain talent.

Pros

Friendly co-workers, ample PTO, pay is fair after several adjustments over the last few years.

Cons

For an entity that shares its name with a school, they do not invest much in education, unfortunately. Inconsistent, poorly-trained managers hiring friends and family, very high turnover. In 6 years, I never once worked on a fully-staffed team.
