Low-stress work but poor communication and recognition - AV Technician ON Services Employee Review

Pros

Pretty low-stress, and doesn't take much skill. Lots of downtime, with the assumption that you have to be ready for very busy days every once in a while. Pay is decent for the work effort normally taken.

Cons

Some dishonest sales practices, which lead to confusing quotes, which messes with communication with operations, which quickly trickles down to us techs not knowing what to do or just plain having the wrong information. You're lucky if you get a 2% merit increase each year, even after exceptionally strong performance. I don't feel recognized for my contributions. Promises of internal promotions but the process is extremely slow if it happens at all. Because of the hotel AV industry (not the company/s fault), times, schedules, quotes, and other details can change day of, and schedules can only be made a week in advance. This makes it extremely hard to find a work-life balance. Availability is expected and you have to set hard boundaries coming in or you'll find yourself run over.

Pros

Decent pay, health insurance, 401k contributions, and paid holidays. Flexibility with occasional remote work and work life balance is possible with the right team at your property.

Cons

High turnover, will pay top dollar for mediocre freelancers and peanuts for FT techs, will throw you out like a piece of garbage with no warning, no write ups regardless of high performance. Lots of snakes in leadership positions- will tell you what you want to hear with no change. Competitor companies constantly on the prowl to take venue contracts on at least one region and GM of hotel dangles in front of ON Services to force them to bend the knee for everything as well as to steamroll employees.
