Some actual perks of working for Newegg: - Great addition to your resume ("I managed ____ categories and grew by __% for a company with BILLIONS in revenue") sounds really awesome to prospective employers and recruiters. - You don't need Rosetta Stone, you can learn Chinese in as little as 90 days! - Free food after 7PM, if you stay that late. - Generous PTO after 1 year of employment - Decent 401K program - Paid by the "day"... so if you have an appointment or have to show up late/leave early, it won't be counted against your PTO. PTO can only be taken in 8-hour increments. - Meet lots of connections in the tech industry, since Newegg is the single-largest Etail as far as tech companies are concerned. - Lots of great people and coworkers who will share your plight and agony.

What are the challenges? Let's see: - Every day is a challenge: coming into work, you have no idea what will be thrown your way by the absurd amount of managers above you. VP, Senior Manager, Category Manager, Domain Leader, Category Director, PMMO... and that's just one category. - On the topic of management, why are there so many different people to report to? You have a "Functional Manager" as well as an "Administrative Manager", but sometimes even the manager doesn't know they are your manager. At one point, I had to have the approval of 6 different people to request PTO. - Brute force tactics are not the most efficient way to achieve sales growth: promotions should be lean, effective, and simple. But too often, category leaders delegate subordinates to create "as many promotions as possible" without considering effectiveness or target audience. - Endless amounts of meetings is fine... but endless amounts of meetings, emails, promotions, and all the endless amounts of neverending work makes you feel like the daily 7PM "free meal" is the company's way of saying "sorry we're throwing you so much work, here's a perk." - There is no "work/life balance", it's more like "work/death balance" since they work you to death. - HR stands for Human Resources. Humans are not machines. Even the best employees need time to ramp up and/or hand off duties as they are shuffled around. However, Newegg Management seems to think that employees are all cogs in a gigantic machine, and expect immediate results from taking on new duties or categories. - The 16 Principles that they tell you? None of it is true once you start working. Some people find out the first week, some people find out 6 years in. - The pay is below average in this industry, for a normal American tech company. It is above average for a normal Asian American tech company. - On the subject of pay: the bonus structure, while potentially lucrative, is a joke. There is, literally, no joke, 2 different "triggers" needed for you to qualify, THEN an absurd formula for calculation kicks and determines your bonus. I think circus elephants needed to do less work to get paid, and they don't get paid!
