Pros
Pro’s - you get an extra day off for your birthday and the general requirement to be in the office is rare, only when needed for significant meetings face to face. It’s Mon-Fri 0900-1700 with no other shift patterns and when visiting the office, you get free parking.
Cons
Cons - Where do I actually start? This is a small Company with no more than 80 colleagues on the payroll of which 90% work remotely so you’ll hardly ever see them.
A case of nepotism at its finest here with the CEO having taken over the family business from their Dad. They are high energy in a good way but unfortunately, their ear is had and influenced by colleagues that don’t always have the best influence. Examples include a colleague one who has given themselves four promotions within the same calendar year. Then there is a colleague two who has been there for over six years, appears nice and approachable on the service of it but does not like being slightly questioned let alone fairly challenged on ways of working, even if it is for the betterment of the Company. Yet, they never miss their chance to tactfully “feedback” when your area has dropped a ball. One-way feedback only basically. Next, we have another colleague three who spent five months saying there was no budget to recruit within the Company. Still, in month six there was enough budget to announce their internal promotion. A nice enough person but forget rocking the boat, they don’t want to get anywhere near the boat if it means other parties will have a view on things. Finally, there is colleague four who talks a fantastic game about Customer First and colleague wellbeing but they simply don’t have the minerals to back it up. What they are good at is compiling report after report from a system which they brought into the Company which gives them a certain standing and value. An analyst at best I would say.
Overall - if you can avoid joining this Company then please do. If you end up joining the Company because you need income then please treat it as a pure stopgap and keep actively applying and interviewing for other roles. I wish I had approached it this way and checked out the reviews on Glassdoor in advance. This is not a Company where you can collaborate with colleagues in a safe space who will support you. You will be judged heavily for anything even slightly out of sync which is not the sign of a healthy and thriving environment. They are cash-strapped to say the least, there will be no bonuses or annual pay reviews either. They depend on funding from new contract wins to even slightly consider spending any money back on colleagues.
Lastly, circa 18 colleagues have left after me, of which many were a surprise.
