Pros
The work/life balance is great at Merit; all levels of management support schedule flexibility as much as possible. Being UM employees, the benefits are great; being a nonprofit, the salary is pretty good. We got a new CEO about a year ago (which is why I didn't rate Don Welch, but I would give our new CEO, Joe Sawasky, a thumbs-up at this time) and that brought a reorganization about six months ago. The reorg has already started to show some changes: more employees at the executive leadership level, a new ERP is coming in the next six months, a push for new services, focus on smart marketing and they are now asking for employees to share ideas for possible new projects. The culture is one that resembles a family. We work hard and pitch in when someone needs help. We enjoy our annual picnic and holiday party. We laugh together often. Also, people are often hired from within. So many of my coworkers began as a temp or in a different department!
Cons
There's still a ways to go to stay ahead of technology, to have open communications when projects are moving quickly and to streamline internal processes. We will need to fight the urge to keep our old work flows when we get the new ERP.
