Pros

Fellow work staff is generally nice and full of interesting people. Discount on product is great. The location is easy to get to with public transportation with lots of great lunch options around.

Cons

The pay is horrible. Even with a generous employee discount you can't afford to buy anything. They are very particular about clocking in and out exactly at the right time. A few minutes of overtime or one minute late and you will have a conversation with your boss. How many customers you help is more important than how well you help an individual customer.

Pros

Best company I've worked for, but just a heads up I have worked for some REALLY bad companies LOL. Not taking anything away from zZounds/Mbira - the company treats you very well, gives you good benefits, and salaries at par with midwest salaries. I've learned a lot from people in the company and enjoyed most of my time while I was there.

Cons

I'm sure it's common in corporate America, but the people in managerial roles are not suitable to be in such positions. Nothing personal here, but if the organization operated as a flatter structure instead of a hierarchical structure, operations would be more efficient and work would be more enjoyable. Speaking specifically about the data science team, the manager lacks knowledge about modern technologies and insists on outdated practices based on his experiences from companies that operate as if we were in the early 2000s. Knowledge gap is a minimal concern, but the primary concern is unwillingness to adopt to new ideas. Replace him with someone more suitable and the data science team will shape the whole company. Lastly, meetings are an excessive waste of time. It's better to have requirements for the week and check in once (or as needed) rather than have a 1 hour morning meeting everyday. Like I said, it might be common in corporate America jobs but It's a huge waste of time.
