Pros
Best company I've worked for, but just a heads up I have worked for some REALLY bad companies LOL. Not taking anything away from zZounds/Mbira - the company treats you very well, gives you good benefits, and salaries at par with midwest salaries. I've learned a lot from people in the company and enjoyed most of my time while I was there.
Cons
I'm sure it's common in corporate America, but the people in managerial roles are not suitable to be in such positions. Nothing personal here, but if the organization operated as a flatter structure instead of a hierarchical structure, operations would be more efficient and work would be more enjoyable.
Speaking specifically about the data science team, the manager lacks knowledge about modern technologies and insists on outdated practices based on his experiences from companies that operate as if we were in the early 2000s. Knowledge gap is a minimal concern, but the primary concern is unwillingness to adopt to new ideas. Replace him with someone more suitable and the data science team will shape the whole company.
Lastly, meetings are an excessive waste of time. It's better to have requirements for the week and check in once (or as needed) rather than have a 1 hour morning meeting everyday. Like I said, it might be common in corporate America jobs but It's a huge waste of time.
