Pros

Helping kids that’s about it.

Cons

This workplace presents a highly unsafe and exploitative environment. Employees are subjected to frequent physical aggression, with little to no support, and in some cases, staff will be touched inappropriately and put in deeply uncomfortable situations involving the children. Instead of addressing these issues, management dismisses them, often placing blame on staff for not preventing harm. The approach to behavior management is deeply flawed, setting both employees and children up for failure. Some children are subjected to unrealistic and ineffective intervention strategies, ultimately doing more harm than good. Additionally, the working conditions are unacceptable. Employee injuries are minimized, workers' compensation is inadequate, and PTO is difficult to use. The healthcare benefits are subpar, and the turnover rate is alarmingly high-many new hires leave within their first day. While breaks are technically allowed, staff are often unable to take them due to severe understaffing. Employees are regularly expected to handle the workload of multiple people, creating an unsustainable and overwhelming environment.

May Institute has been a great place to grow and enhance my career. I started in an entry-level position over a decade ago and have been promoted along the way to a direct-level position. They have fostered my educational and professional growth with highly-qualified supervisors and meaningful collaboration. They value employees well-being and satisfaction.

Cons

The work can be challenging, but the people are amazing!
