Pros

- Good hours if you work in the day program. - Because the turnover is so high and they are so understaffed, there is a lot of overtime available if that appeals to you. - PTO is decent, but there is no sick time, vacation/sick time comes out of the same pool so if you get really sick (likely to happen in this field) you might mess up vacation plans. - Mid-management is decent, my Day Program Director is great and the Clinicians I’ve met have been very friendly and respectful to us direct care workers. - Your birthday is a holiday so you get a free paid day off that you can take on any day during your birth month. - You’ll meet and work with some amazing clients who put a smile on your face.

Cons

- The pay is absolutely abysmal. Most people need to work overtime to get by. - Basically a revolving door, don’t get attached to coworkers. - Constantly understaffed. - No performance reviews. - No raises. - No career growth. Expect to stagnate and never move up. Even trying to move from a direct care role into a corporate role is nearly impossible. If you do get an interview, expect to never hear from them again. - No communication. - Upper Management is rude and acts like they’re better than you (they’re not). In fact most of the corporate side acts like you’re beneath them. - Adult Program is underfunded and it shows. Facilities are dirty and things are constantly breaking. - Expect to receive a ton of mandatory training and certifications that add $0.00 to your hourly wage.

Pros

May Institute has been a great place to grow and enhance my career. I started in an entry-level position over a decade ago and have been promoted along the way to a direct-level position. They have fostered my educational and professional growth with highly-qualified supervisors and meaningful collaboration. They value employees well-being and satisfaction.

Cons

The work can be challenging, but the people are amazing!
